Rice Paddies, Java, Indonesia, 2014
Java, 2014
Jarkata, Java is a bustling urban setting. Women in colorful hijabs move gracefully through the streets, the hijabs accenting their faces. A mostly Muslim region of Indonesia, the Golden Mosque (largest in Southeast Asia) sits opposite the Catholic Cathedral. The arts of Java are known world wide and include beautiful batiks, wonderful wood masks and carvings, and the bamboo instrument called the angklung, and the ornate shadow puppets. Proud veterans from the war with the Dutch still celebrate their victory.
