Patagonia---Argentina and Chile, 2019
Patagonia is that area of Argentina and Chile south of the 40th parallel where indigenous people lived for thousands of years. The region is dominated by a view of the majestic Andes Mountains and includes deserts, pampas and grassland (massive ranches with sheep and cattle), rivers, lakes, extensive national parks, and on the Pacific Ocean side, myriad fjords. Although there are only 1.9 people per square kilometer, sizeable cities do exist and Punta Arenas (pop. 116,000) vies with two smaller cities for the title of the southern most city on earth.
